Beijing Geely students Graduate in Grimsby

The Grimsby Institute would like to congratulate the first cohort of students from its partner, the Beijing Geely University, China, who graduated on Thursday 19th July, at Grimsby Town Hall.

A total of 18 students graduated on courses including Business Management and Business and Tourism Management.

The partnership with the Beijing Geely University began in 2003 and involves the running of 2 + 2 degree programmes, whereby a student completes the first phase of their course in China and the second phase in Grimsby. Joint degree programmes with the University are also run in Business English and Digital Media Production.

Wan Ying Yang, 22, achieved a 2:1 honours degree in Business Management, and was awarded the Wm Northam Prize for Excellence, she said:

“I was really surprised when I was told I’d won this award. The course has been really tough at times but I’m glad I saw it through and I’m really proud to be graduating.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time living in Grimsby and studying at the Grimsby Institute. Everyone’s been really friendly and supportive here; I’ll be sad to leave.”

Principal of the Grimsby Institute, Professor Daniel Khan, added:

“It was a very proud moment to see the first group of students from the Beijing Geely University graduate; they’ve all worked extremely hard.

“We are thrilled with how the partnership with Beijing Geely is developing, it has proven to be very successful and we hope it continues to progress.”
