Situated in the zone of Changping Sci-tech Park neighbouring the Olympic Village, Beijing Geely University is a private comprehensive university. Founded by the Geely Group in the year 2000, ratified by the Beijing People’s Municipal Government and registered by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, it started enrolling full-time students on high vocational programmes in 2001 and by now it has its 5th year’s graduates. Its campus stretches over a land area of 106 hectares, with a gross floor area of nearly 500 thousand m2. It has more than 1000 faculty and staff and accommodates some 30 thousands full-time students.
The university comprises 17 colleges and schools: Business School, School of Automobile Technology, College of Information Engineering, College of News and Media, Foreign Languages College, College of Finance and Securities, College of Modern Arts, Law School, College of Life Science and Technology, College of Comic and Animation, College of Applied Psychology, School of Music and Dance, College of Cultural Economics, Ying Da College of Film and Television, Euro-American International College, College of International Management, School of Continuing Education. Furthermore, there are three separate learning and research centres: Automobile Research Institute, Educational Research Institute and the Centre of Chinese for Foreigners.
Several academic groupings unique to BGU such as automobile technology, business and trade, cultural business, have been formed on fully utilizing each other’s advantages, offering more than 100 newly created subjects (orientations) covering the seven major academic domains in technology, science, economics, management, law, literature and philosophy.
Since its founding, the university has been advocating a conceptual transformation, shifting the emphasis in education from fields of study to fields of technological and practical application. The project “311” has been such a product. Based on its guiding principle of serving the society and on its belief of survival through quality, the university has been aiming for the full employment of its graduates, for innovation and at the same time for the steady increase of its student volume. Relying on the advantage of its enterprise background, its goal is to make BGU a first-rate private university with a well-balanced curriculum of multiple disciplines and subjects, training high-quality and practical-oriented professionals well adapted to an economically developing society.
The university is equipped with full and perfect teaching and living facilities. Among its landmark constructions are a grand library complex, a multifunctional gymnasium with an original design and the modern International Lecture Hall.
The university has been actively engaging in international exchange and cooperation, enlisting the service of advanced teaching resources from abroad. Different forms of long term cooperation relationships have been established with close to 100 institutions of higher learning from 17 countries and regions such as US, UK and Japan.
Beijing Geely University is governed by its president under the jurisdiction of a Board of Directors. The president of the Board is Mr. Li Shufu, concurrently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Geely Group. The university president is Professor Jiang Shuren, formerly the president of the China Agricultural University.
